AS5048A encoder/code disc, high precision 14bit (bit); The 14bit (bit) measurement analog front end provides a measurement resolution as low as 0.0219 degrees Pan-tilt code disc/encoder motor dedicated AS5048A is a 14-bit rotary position sensor (formerly known as encoder) with absolute angle measurement and PWM (= pulse width modulation) output at 360 full turn based on contactless magnetic sensor technology. The device is suitable for shaft applications where a simple two-pole magnet rotates above or below sensor IC and zero position can be programmed into device with simple SPI commands. The absolute magnetic angular position resolution is 14 bits = 16384 positions per turn measured as digital values on serial interface (SPI). AS5048 provides PWM output as well as SPI or I2C interface to provide absolute angle measurement for microcontrollers. Instead of considering chip's initial zero position and exact matching of magnet poles it uses during mechanical design, the zero position can be programmed into AS5048's internal memory during assembly via simple SPI or I2C commands (no special programming equipment required). The AS5048 also has very high operating tolerances, including deviations in center position between chip and mating magnet, deviations in air between chip and mating magnet, and temperature variations between -40C and +150C. The AS5048 magnetic rotary encoder provides more accurate measurements than previous austriamicrosystems magnetic rotary encoder products. Its 14-bit measurement analog front end provides measurement resolutions as low as 0.0219 degrees. Linearization and averaging by microcontroller can achieve angular measurements accurate to 0.05 degrees.
