Angular Contact Ball Bearingshave raceways in the inner and outer ring, which are displaced with respect to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. This means that they are suitable for acting radial and axial loads. The axial load carrying capacity ofAngular Contact Ball Bearingsincreases with increasing contact angle. These bearings are specially manufactured so that when mounted in random order, but immediately adjacent to each other, the predetermined value of axial internal clearance or preload will be attained, or an even distribution of load, without shims or similar devices having to be used. When arranged in tandem the load lines are in parallel and the radial and axial loads are evenly divided between the bearings. The bearing pair is only able to accommodate axial loads in one direction so that a third bearing is generally adjusted against the pair to carry the axial loads acting in the opposite direction. The load lines of bearings in O-arrangement diverge towards the bearing axis. Axial loads acting in both directions can be accommodated, but only by one bearing in each direction. Bearings mounted in O-arrangement provide a relatively stiff arrangement, which can also accommodate tilting moments. Regarding load lines of bearings in X-arrangement, axial loads acting in both directions can be carried, but only by one bearing in each direction. This arrangement is not stiff as the O-arrangement and is also less suitable for the accommodation of tilting moments.
